At the Sixth PLAGUE the way is PREPARED for the soon coming battle of Armageddon, and the beast and kings and their armies are gathered together into "a place" for the battle (Re.16:16, Jer.51:36, Jer.51:49, Isa.63:2 below).
The Seven Last Plagues occur after the Seventh TRUMPET (1 Thess.4:16-17), the ascension.
Re.16:12 And the SIXTH angel poured out his vial upon the great river Eu-phra-tes; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings (Re.17:12-14) of the east might be PREPARED.
Re.16:13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon (Re.12:9, Re.20:2, Re.9:11), and out of the mouth of the beast (Re.13:1-8), and out of the mouth of the false prophet (Re.13:11-17).

Jer.51:36 Therefore thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will plead thy cause, and take vengeance for thee (Isa.63:3); and I will dry up her sea, and make her springs dry (Re.16:12).
